Buzz Patterson had a long and distinguished career as an Air Force officer. He was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and he gained multiple degrees and advanced up the ranks in the Air Force for 20 years. He flew 15 combat missions under fire in Sarajevo and Bosnia and was awarded the Air Force medal for meritorious achievement. He was also in the Bill Clinton White House as Sr. MilitarSr. Military Air Force Aide to Presidenty Air Force Aide to the President. In this duty he was responsible for the President's Emergency Satchel, also called the Nuclear Football. Clinton awarded him the Defense Superior Service Medal for his service during this time. During the presentation President Clinton said "Buzz Patterson's performance has been among the finest I have observed, marked by solid, quiet professionalism. He has earned my personal and professional respect and surpasses the high expectations placed on a Presidential Military Aide."
