Woke up Monday and my wife's first words were "50 killed and 400 injured in shooting at concert in :Las Vegas." I will play a song Eric Church wrote and sung at the Grand Ole Opry to honor the victims and their families. Not sure what else we can do but remember them and aspire to be the best we can be.

Then later on in the day she texted that Tom Petty had died. It turns out that he was still hanging on to life by a thread. He passed away later that night. Tonight we play some Tom Petty, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Traveling Wilburys in honor of the career of Petty.

That same night my daughter-in-law checked  into the hospital to give birth. She had been having blood pressure issues and the doctor had decided that it was in her and the baby's best interest to get it done sooner than scheduled. I was hoping that Zeke would not be born on that Monday because of all the bad news that day and it turns out he was in no hurry at all.

We sat in that hospital for almost 24 hours creeping toward birth until the doctor came in and announced that they would be doing a c-section ASAP. Mrs Pipe and I had gone through the same circumstances with our first and it was great just knowing that Zeke was coming soon.

I had always thought about being a grandpa but I had not even been close to the actual feelings that it would bring forth. It is much like becoming a father for the first time but then again not. We are blessed that he is a healthy baby and that mom will be her normal self in time. We thank God for this.
