Female criminal offenders seem to shock those that read about them, witness them in action, or fall victim to them. Pedophilia committed  by women often goes unreported because the general expectation is that a woman is the "softer, more nurturing" gender, and would tend to be the protectors and fixers of problems, not the violators. Is this ancient notion and blanket portrait of women causing victims to remain unprotected and without justice?
