Public safety is becoming more of a danger TO the public. Hospitals all over are becoming increasingly negligent of their patients, especially their elderly patients. Cases like Lynne Spaulding, a woman with a grave diagnosis that required monitoring by staff every fifteen minutes, went missing from a San Francisco hospital and was found dead in the hosptial stairwell seventeen days later, and similar incidents, seem to be becoming a routine norm.
Additionally, public transportation mishaps resulting in grave injuries or deaths are on the rise, including the most recent derailing of a Metro-North train in NYC which killed four people, and hurt others. While the investigation into this derailment still has yet to determine if the derailment was the fault of technical defect or human error, the question remains if stricter protocols of screening and enforcing of these protocols need to be implemented so that the public can truly be safe when entrusting their lives to these facilities and organizations.
