"On The Air Community Meeting: Close Our Public Schools On Snowstorm Days!"

Calling all parents and NYC public school teachers...and all others affected by unfair administrative decisions to keep our schools open on major snowstorm and sever freezing temperatures. Mother Nature has been rough this year, and our city has granted everyone but the public school students and teachers the right to safety from the bitter effects and dangers of her wrath.

Chancellor Carmen Farina used in her reasoning that poor families count on the school meals to feed their children breakfast...yet children trying to get to school on time for these meals in deep snow and subzero temps will have to leave even earlier than the already extremely early meal times to have access to those meals. Additionally, alternatives to this matter can be used to preserve the safety pof our children, their parents and the teachers who have to endure the horrific difficulties of gettig to work for a skimpy class. Not one mention of children who suffer with asthma and other ailments that such weather can worsen was spoken of, nor were the possibilities of other dangers, such as skidding cars and accidents  come into the mix.
