The injuries inflicted go far beyond black eyes or broken bones--the breaking of spirits, families, trust and love far outweigh the damage of physical scars. Many medical and psychological jounrals have been published revealing the underlying causes of domestic violence, breaking down both the abusers and the victims reasons for the roles they play in domestic violence, yet the question remains--why does it continue? Aside from the obvious reasons that have been used to explain why victims stay with abusers and why abusers contiue the cycle, the lack of community involvement and the loss of the "village" in the Black community plays a huge role in why domestic abuse continues to spread.
