Continuing our discussion on the effects of society's rules on how to "be a real man"...Men live under duality--balancing the laws of human nature versus the laws of manhood created by society. Men are taught to be strong, tough, protective, warriors and to defy any natural reaction or natural feelings to any situation because submitting to natural fear, physical pain or emotional trauma somehow constitutes a defect in their manhood and renders them "soft". Of course, human nature requires a productive coping mechanism, which is composed of human affection, support and reassurance--so what options do men have that will allow them to be human without breaking society's "man code"? Sadly they cope with using duplicitous methods, living to satisfy their projected image rather than their true needs and preferences. Men shy away from seeking help, admitting fear and pain, accepting trauma, or even allowing themselves to grieve for as long as they need to for fear of appearing weak and inadequate. How do we break this destructive cycle? Join in tonight at 11PM EST with your thoughts by calling 347-327-9967.
