Continuing our series on the public school system flaws that hurt our children, Part two covers the struggles homeschooling parents face inconspicuously implemented by the Board of Education in a low-key effort to dissuade parents from choosing that option--although homeschooling is one of the only two federally accepted methods of educating your child in the Untied States. Specifically, the state of New York is a huge culprit of this infraction.
One example of an obstacle for homeschooling parents is the limited resources they can turn to if they should require assistance in the curriculum, while Board of Education staff members have access to plenty of hotlines, regional offices, websites and experts at their fingertips. while it has been well-documented that homeschooled children fare better in testing, cultural arts, academic achievements, they are forced to pay a fee to take a test if they want to earn a diploma that is nationally accredited and accepted by institutions for further education or employment. In all fairness, searches for homeschooling assistance turn up a dew more links now than they did two years ago, but most of those are peer-to-peer websites created by other homeschoolers who had no options--not by the Board of Education. The quality of our children's education, the crucial value in parents' rights to choose the paths for their children's education, and the peace of mind for ALL educators to know they always have help when they need it is a fundamental right that should never be up for negotiation.
