06/15/2024 - Let's Do It Radio - Sgt James Parks - Yakima NAACP 32nd Juneteenth Celebration

Hostess/Producer: Mz. Inez

Topic: 32nd Juneteenth Celebration - Yakima, WA

Juneteenth is a celebration of African American Independence—Freedom Day! On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation approximately 1,800 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.

Somebody paved the way, so we could walk in comfort. Somebody blazed the trail to make a path for us.

Somebody walked through the eye of the storm withstood the draft of rain. Don’t let it be in vain.

Somebody gave their heart and soul, gave their blood and sweat

A tale of courage that must be told we should never forget what they did for us and be proud of them. They loved enough to give. Remember somebody died, just remember somebody died so we could live.
