I. Intro 

    -Why we communicate

  -How we communicate is a major part of what brands us (reputation)

  -More effective at business must be more effective communicators 

 

II.  Communication basics (Elements)

 

  -Message

  -Sender/receiver

  -Encoding/decoding

  -Noise (Internal/external)

  -Feedback

 

III.  Barriers to effective communication (can be interactive - have the audience think through a communication situation where they had a rough go at it.  Then try to determine without blaming what was a barrier that got in the way.  They can call in and briefly describe it, then we will discuss that barrier)

 

  -Stereotyping

  -Exaggeration

  -Absolutes

  -Words carry different meanings

  -Noise (external/internal)

 

IV.  Listening - Can be interactive.  I can have a listener tell me about their last trip and model each element after we discuss them.

 

  -Looking Interested

  -Inquire with questions

  -Summarize

  -Test understanding

  -Empathize

  -Neutralize judgements

- relationship building, tactical strategies to better your relationship building, behaviors (for business and relationship), fostering personal relationships while on the road, negotiations, etc...
