The month of February is black history month, and throughout the month we will introduce various people and events that shaped the civil rights movement. On the show today, I will introduce Mr. Robert F. Williams of Monroe North Carolina. Mr Williams's philosophy was viewed as both heroic and seditious by other civil rights leaders of the time. Regardless of the differences in philosophies they all wanted the same thing “FREEDOM FROM WHITE SUPREMACY.”

Before Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., there was Robert F. Williams who was frustrated and angered by violence condoned or abetted by the local authorities against blacks. Monroe North Carolina's community brought the issue of armed self-defense to the forefront of the civil rights movement. Under Robert Williams leadership Monroe North Carolina became the test case of blacks' rights to armed self-defense when law and order broke down.
