Facing Your Fears Radio Talk Show with Host Evangelist Norma Chapman and Co-Host Pastor Doris Smith along with our amazing Special Guest Sheriff Marlin Gusman will be discussing how the new jail was builder and the importance of building a new jail. He states " since 2004 he have been on a journey. He was first elected eight months before Katrina hit the city of New Orleans. The average prison population at that time was 6600 inmates, mostly state and federal prisoners. He had worked in City Hall under Mayor Ernest and Marc Morial, and was elected City Councilman for District D before running for Sheriff. He knew we had the 8th largest jail system in the United States sitting in the heart of New Orleans. It never made sense to him. He knew personally we needed a safer, smaller and more secure jail. Hurricane Katrina hit eight months after he was elected Sheriff. It did a lot of damage to the safety systems of the existing buildings serving as jails. There was 13 of them across a half-mile area of downtown. After Katrina, there was only one building left we could occupy. FEMA built eight tents for the inmates, boasting they could withstand the impact of a rocket-launched missile. That may have been true. But in reality they could not withstand the puncture made by a simple ballpoint. Join us on this amazing, informative episode as our Special Guest takes us back in time.
