Our Black News would like everyone to take a moment and pause; the messages of unity, peace, #BlackLivesMatter, Anti-Racism, and non-violence towards one and another are falling on deaf ears. The demographic – secondary school children, ages 14-21. How did we as a ‘village’ miss the needs of a 14-year old boy that killed (shot) another teenager, 17? Why hasn’t the string of violent crimes in Minneapolis and St. Paul ceased? Many don’t want to talk about the string of crimes where “141 people have been shot in 2020, compared to 99 at this time last year. Homicides in St. Paul are already on track to surpass last year’s 31 shooting deaths, while Minneapolis has already exceeded the total number of murders they had in 2019” (Sawyer, Star Tribune 2020). The people shooting and the people dying are from all walks of life.
