Mothers take more than their fair share of blame and abuse starting from girlhood. It seems the last thing a woman needs when she's struggling with self worth in a DV relationship is razor blades in her heart, cutting her to pieces from the inside. But before most of us ever got to adulthood and sexual maturity and all the wonders that go with the ability to give birth to babies of our own, we had to put up with shaming and ugly cutting remarks from our heroes and role models, those who meant the most to us, who we looked up to for guidance, who should have been in our corner.

Growing up Protestant, I thought the Mormon church would be my ticket to understanding how family works. Boy, was I wrong! Tonight I have the privilege of discussing the Mormon experience with a mom who has lived and loved and worshipped "among the tares" as they say.
