Opening: Brian Willson was an air force commando and Vietnam veteran who came to the conclusion that the Vietnam war and subsequent US wars are outrageous crimes against humanity. Further, he decided that it was his responsibility to do something about it. His non-violent and peaceful protests resulted in him being investigated as a terrorist, the loss of both of his legs, and lawsuits against him by the crew of the train that deliberately ran him over.
Body: My wife and I recently attended a pre-release showing of a two-hour documentary that tells Brian’s story and his journey of a courageous warrior who became a peace activist who demonstrated moral courage.
Conclusions: Physical courage and moral courage are far from the same thing. Physical courage is rewarded by our society, but moral courage is most often punished by extreme measures. The most courageous among us are now being punished and some of the worst are being rewarded. Whistleblowers are being jailed and worse. Criminals are in high positions.
Closure: What you can do to contribute to a society that actually does represent liberty and justice for all.
