In Love No Matter What: When Your Kids Make Decisions You Don’t Agree With, Brenda Garrison and her daughter Katie share what worked and didn't work as Katie made poor decision after poor decision in her teens.

Katie’s choice to move out at 18, use her college money to fund an apartment, and later, briefly live with her boyfriend, initially crushed Brenda. But in hindsight, Brenda realized that imperfect families are the norm and that neither she nor Katie had it all wrong; they were simply fallen beings in need of grace.

In addition to Brenda’s thoughts, the book shares what Katie has to say about her decisions. In sections called “Katie’s Thoughts,” she shares exactly what she was thinking when she made certain decisions, how she viewed her parents at the time, and what she learned.

Brenda’s goal is not to turn readers into perfect parents; those don’t exist. She wants to equip parents with basic truths about how to love their children, listen to them, and understand them.

“You can’t fix or save your child,” says Brenda, “and it is not your responsibility to do so.…I wanted to fix Katie, but she didn’t need fixing. She needed to be heard and understood.”
