The Supreme Court arguments today this Tuesday, May 12, held over telephone and broadcast live, over subpoenas of President Donald Trump's financial records were indeed historic, leading the justices and lawyers to grapple with nearly 250 years of American history, investigations of presidents and questions about the future of separation of powers.

The cases tackled whether Trump can stop the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives from getting his tax and banking records from an accounting firm along with two banks he used and whether the President can halt a grand jury investigation in Manhattan that seeks his tax records. Rulings are expected this summer.

The conference call btwn. the Justice Dept, Trumps lawyers, NY Dist Attorney Office and House of Reps lasted 3 hrs 22 min.

Also, there was a covert operation named Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation, which was opened in late July 2016 after the Australian government reported that Papadopoulos told Alexander Downer, an Australian diplomat to the United Kingdom, during a May 2016 meeting that the Russian government had “damaging” material on Clinton and was prepared to release it late in the election.  We debate the impact of that on the Trump presidency until now, when Supreme Court is weighing the significance of his financial portfolio being released.  The decision may come in time for Election 2020.
