1968, when I was 13, was a remarkable year in American history, and my personal development. Because my personal emotions did not coincide with those of my family, I his them, and emotional dishonesty became my way to survive controversy and emotional difficulty. Later in life, facing life threatening illness, divorce and professional challenges, I was ill equipped because of my emotional paralysis. This book came out of that paralysis, and writing it allowed me to develop tools that anyone can use to more usefully access the myriad of their emotions.
Dr. Monaco offers the reader tools with which one can effectively access the most honest emotional reaction to any given life situation, and one which best serves one’s own sense of self. This book is at once a review of the amazing history of 1968, a portrait of how many baby boomers reacted to the tumult of that time, and a psychological/emotional toolbox for those facing emotional crises.
