As the coordinator of a municipal community mediation center, I talk to people every day who are having a variety of conflicts in their neighborhoods that they’re not able to resolve on their own.  Regardless of the specifics of their individual conflict, the common thread I see it that people either don’t have or don’t know how to use effective emotional intelligence skills.  We’ll talk about how the community mediation process is one way to help increase EQ skills in people who participate in mediation.

Visit www.nafcm.org to learn about the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM) to locate a community mediation center near you. Many community mediation centers offer conflict resolution training and have volunteer opportunities. Getting involved can be a powerful way to help your local community constructively engage conflict through the use of community mediation and the talents of local community volunteer mediators.
