1) The family of a 6-year-old boy who shot and wounded his teacher in Virginia said Thursday that the gun he used had been “secured" and that one of his parents usually accompanied him in class but did not the week the shooting occurred. “Our family has always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children,” the statement said. “The firearm our son accessed was secured.”The family also said that the boy “suffers from an acute disability and was under a care plan at the school that included his mother or father attending school with him and accompanying him to class every day.”The family said the week of the shooting “was the first week when we were not in class with him. We will regret our absence on this day for the rest of our lives.”

2) Actor Alec Baldwin, who allegedly fatally shot Halyna Hutchins the cinematographer on the set of the movie “Rust” in 2021, and the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter Baldwin has maintained he was not aware the gun he fired during a rehearsal contained a live round.

A California girl overcomes one hurdle in her search for a magical creature: In a handwritten letter dated 11/ 14, the girl, identified only as Madeline, wrote to Los Angeles County and asked it to allow her to look after a unicorn at home, should she succeed in corralling one? Madeline, 6, wrote. “Please send me a letter in response.” On Nov. 30,  the director of the L. A. Depart. of Animal Care & Control wrote back said she had approved a unicorn license for Madeline and listed the county’s five conditions for unicorn licensing.
