Amazon has abandoned its plans to set up part of its second headquarters in New York City, citing fierce opposition from state and local lawmakers. This is a political triumph for state Sen. Michael Gianaris, D-Queens, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. It's also a big defeat for Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, both of whom had offered the online retailer the moon and the stars to set up shop in the Big Apple. Dr. Marty Nemko, award-winning career coach, education reformer, UC Berkeley trained Educational Psychologist, a blogger for Psychology Today and host of Work with Marty Nemko on KALW, 91.7 FM and author of the books Careers For Dummies and What's the Big Idea?: Reinventions for a Better America, will drop in to talk about it. A severe measles outbreak in Washington State has now spread to neighboring Oregon and is poised to go nationwide, putting hundreds of thousands of mostly children at risk. How can this happen with a disease most thought had been wiped out, like polio and smallpox? Experts say a much larger percentage of non-vaccinated children in Washington and Oregon than the national average is thought to be the cause of the rapid spreading of measles. Dr. Robert Cohen M.D., Army veteran, physician, scientist, world traveler, poverty reduction expert and creator and host of the Democrises podcast, will join me to discuss the issue. Don't forget about the Edwards Notebook and the Veteran's Tip of the Day! All of this and more as time allows.
