This week on You're Important To Sara: Mary Terzian author of "THE IMMIGRANTS' DAUGHTER," freelance writer

The crossing of crossing alphabets, careers, cultures and continents and immigrants story.

I was born in Egypt to Armenian parents. I started learning English at age 11. I am fluent in Armenian and French, and have a smattering of other languages learned through osmosis.

I worked for the United Nations in different countries in Africa. Also reported experiences to readers at home, as a sideline. Traveled extensively for leisure.

I immigrated to the USA in 1967, majored in Business Administration and was employed as an Internal Auditor for an Aerospace company for twelve years.

I wrote "The Immigrants' Daughter", a coming of age memoir on  life in Egypt. The book is considered a "page turner," "a fascinating journey through adolescence in search of oneself", and an inspiring story overall. It won a Best Books 2006 Award, was finalist in Indie Excellence 2007 Book Awards, and now won Dan Poynter's 2012 E-Book Award, in multicultural nonfiction, just like the two others.

During the ceremony at Santa Barbara on August 18, 2012, I learned that the e-book version of The Immigrants’ Daughter won Dan Poynter’s 2012 Global E-Book Award in multicultural nonfiction. I froze for a moment. Yes, it was an audiovisual announcement, so there was no doubt about it. Despite the monumental changes in my life, crossing alphabets, careers, cultures and continents, the thoughts expressed in my book have resonated with readers of different nationalities.
