Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis has been an activist for 30 years, working towards ending violence against women. As the CEO, she is responsible for overseeing both internal and external operations, funding, and community education. Under her leadership, Genesis has grown from a seven-room emergency shelter to a complete service provider for survivors of domestic violence. It has also maintained its unique status as one of the few victim services programs that can sustain itself without government funding. Jan is also a recognized national expert on domestic violence and conducts training and workshops across the United States. She co-founded the annual international Conference on Crimes Against Women in partnership with the Dallas Police Department and the FBI.

The core mission of Genesis is to provide safety, shelter, and support to women and children who have experienced domestic violence. The organization also aims to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence, and impact.

Diversity, inclusion, and belonging are important principles at Genesis. The organization empowers women and children by offering safety, shelter, and support. In the same regard, they strive to create a workplace that is as diverse as the communities they serve, where everyone feels empowered to be themselves. With these guiding principles, Genesis commits to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, identity, and experience. They believe this will help them listen, learn, work together, and succeed as a team.
