The Voice of Change welcomes Karen Hudson, the Sonoma County Coordinator for the 2012 ballot initiative campaign to Label GMOs to the program.  If you are eating a typical American diet you are consuming GMOs in almost every bite. What is a GMO? How do I know if I'm eating them? Why don't they have to undergo safety tests? Is what the opposition is saying true? Are they really linked to faulty insulin regulation, autism, ADD, allergies, infertility, and certain kinds of cancer?  I want to know.  Do you?

Karen Hudson is the Sonoma County Coordinator for the 2012 ballot initiative to Label GMOs.  She is a retired school teacher, mother, grandmother, 20 year cancer survivor, and studied nutrition for fun when she was in college.  She's also taught nutrition at a women's drug and alcohol recovery home.  As a teacher, in 1995 Karen began noticing a nutritional decline in student lunches, which was accompanied by a decline in student behavior and a rise in attention deficit disorders and the number of students with autistic tendencies in the school.  So she  began to write a healthy lunch and snack column for the school newspaper.  One day she picked up a brochure from the Institute for Responsible Technology at the grocery store and read about GMOs.  Karen called the Institute, and began to research the subject. A few years later, she was contacted by Jeffrey Smith's office to help with an event for World Food Day in San Francisco, which led to her volunteering at the Heirloom Expo, and to her current position as local coordinator for Prop 37.
