Tonight it is my great pleasure to have on the show Virginia Beane Rutter discussing the Navajo Kinaalda ceremony and her book, Woman Changing Woman.  We'll also revisit it in relation to the Greek initiation ceremonies for girls.  Time permitting we'll discuss her upcoming book, Ancient Greece/Modern Psyche Archetypes in the Making, particularly a chapter called "Saffron Offering and Blood Sacrifice: Tranformation Mysteries in Jungian Analysis"...

Virginia Beane Rutter, MA, MS, is a Jungian analyst who trained at the C. G. Jung Institutes of Zurich and San Francisco. Her first master’s degree in Art History (University of California, Berkeley) and an early sustaining love of Greece developed into a passion for studying ancient myths and rites of passage through art, archaeology, and psychology. These studies grew out of her clinical practice and coalesced around archetypal themes of initiation as they manifest in the unconscious material of women and men today. She is the author of three books,  Woman Changing Woman: Restoring the Mother-Daughter Relationship (1993 and 2009), Celebrating Girls: Nurturing and Empowering Our Daughters (1996), and Embracing Persephone: How to Be the Mother You Want for the Daughter You Cherish (2000). Her most recent article, “Saffron Offering and Blood Sacrifice: Transformation Mysteries in Jungian Analysis" is a chapter in Ancient Greece, Modern Psyche: Archetypes in the Making which she co-edited with Thomas Singer (2011).
