The New York State Legislature adjourned the 2013 session permitting the compulsory arbitration law to be extended for three additional years. Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) records face union membership working without contracts for about 5 years. At issue now is how the validity of the law will effect cities like Yonkers, considered fiscally distressed in a manner ill defined by law. Has the arbitration process changed so as to permit “the process and help municipalities continue to protect the public’s safety while balancing the interests of their taxpayers?” Yonkers Firefighter and I.A.F.F. Local 628 President Barry McGoey, recently returned from Albany will share the facts and ramifications the process holds for Yonkers. Mr McGoey, Esq., will be the first guest on the Tuesday, July 30, 2013 program of Westchester On the Level beginning at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., author, poet, writer John F. McMullen will attend the show to speak to his dexterity with the written word.
