Mount Vernon Mayor Mayor Richard Thomas is immersed in surmounting challenges smoldering over standards and protocols that find divergent political perspectives and agenda among vocal and office holding protagonists. The political contenders are Mayor Richard Thomas, Comptroller Maureen Walker, City Council President Marcus Griffith, and the balance of the City Council. The political assaults have reached new highs.
The City Council had on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 vacated 5 political appointees positions and advised the parties impacted by letter by Comptroller Walker the next day of the suspension of their respective salaries and benefits. The vacated positions relate to Corporation Counsel Lawrence Porcari, Public Works Commissioner Ralph Uzzi, and Communications Spokesperson Maria Donovan. Walker has asserted those and two more named named do not comply with residency requirements.
