This week we'll be talking about an issue that's not only local to us, but is happening everywhere and just seems to be getting worse. Violence in our schools is serious and should not be ignored or swept under the rug. We try to teach our kids to do the right thing, to report when they hear about guns, drugs or bullying. But what happens when they make good choices and then are attacked for it? Locally a young girl reported to school officials when rumors surfaced that a student had a gun, that student was removed from school and she was labeled as a snitch. She was bullied at school and online for weeks. Reports were made, and the school was aware. Her family was reassured several times that she would be safe at school. On February 8th, 2022 she was cornered by a group of girls, most created a wall while two attacked her. She sustained injuries and a concussion. While she is recovering physically, her mental health is also suffering. This could have been avoided, and she should have felt safe at school, instead this has been continuous for weeks. We all need to do better, our schools need to do better.
