WRSP presents the fifth weekly episode of the Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. The 2015 AFC Championship has been the subject of long conversations over the last 18 months, but the famous Deflategate scadal has finally come to an end. Tom Brady essentially surrendered, will not seek to bring his case to the U.S. Supreme Court, and must sit out the first four games. Our hosts will share their thoughts on whether this conclusion changes the way they view the scandal as a whole.
Boston must just love controversy. At the All-Star Game, Red Sox DH David Ortiz lobbied for Boston to trade for pitcher Jose Fernandez and recruited Edwin Encarnacion to sign with the Red Sox this offseason. Ortiz could be facing tampering punishment, but Holcomb will explain why the sports world has a double standard when it comes to their tampering laws.
Our hosts will also share the rest of their thoughts on baseball's All-Star week as well.
This episode conclues with big news out of Pittsburgh. Defenseman Justin Schultz decided to stay with the Penguins, signing a one-year, $1.4 million deal. Holcomb will argue why it's a win-win for both sides. In baseball, the Pirates have demoted struggling lefty Jon Niese to the bullpen.
As for the Cubs, they got back on the right track Friday, with Kyle Hendricks leading a 6-0 victory over the AL best Texas Rangers.
