WRSP presents the eighth weekly episode of Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. The Pittsburgh Pirates said they were going to be buyers at the trade deadline, but it didn't exactly work out that way. Pittsburgh did buy starting pitcher Ivan Nova from the Yankees for a cheap price, but that's about the only buying they did. Meanwhile, the Pirates also sold closer Mark Melancon and the team's No. 2 starter Francisco Liriano. The latter smelt really bad, as in the Liriano deal to Toronto, Pittsburgh included two top 10 prospects in order to entice the Blue Jays to take Liriano's salary.
During the week, the Pirates continued to confuse its fan base, benching Andrew McCutchen for an entire series while battered starting Jeff Locke the second game in Atlanta.
Next, our hosts break into a Hall of Fame credential discuss in regards to two greats, one who played for the Chicago Bears and the other who announced his retirement for the New York Yankees on Friday.
To end the show, our hosts will try a new segment called "Something or Nothing" where they will dive into the signficance of the near brawl at Jets camp Friday, Russell Westbrook's comments on Kevin Durant's departure and the successful opening ceremony for the summer olympics in Rio on Friday night.
