WRSP presents the 10th weekly episode of Weekend Sports Huddle with co-hosts Tom Pollin and Dave Holcomb. We normally open with something Chicago or Pittsburgh related, but everyone is talking about Ryan Lochte and the latest Olympic Scandal. Latest reports suggest that the 12-time Olympic medalist fabricated the story about him and three other American swimmers being victims of a crime last week. We cover the latest of this scandal and more.
Last week, Pollin talked about the 11-game winning streak for the Cubs, but Chicago isn't the only team suring in the NL Central. The Pirates have won nine of last 13, and Cardinals have been victorious five games in a row, putting the division in position to possibly advance three teams into the playoffs again. Our hosts contemplate the likelihood of that occurring.
In the NFL, there's no shortage of drama at Steelers camp. Ladarius Green's injury situation has quickly become one of the most confusing around the league, but the tight end has not practiced since the start of training camp, and that has to be at least a little concerning for the Steelers. Plus, Le'Veon Bell's suspension was reduced to three games.
But the biggest news around the league deals with James Harrison and this latest bout with Roger Goodell, who has threatened to suspend Harrison, Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers if they do not cooperate and meet with him to discuss their inclusion in the Al Jazeera Report in January.
To end the show, we look ahead to hockey season and discuss whether the addition of Matt Cullen makes the Penguins the early favorite to win the 2017 Stanley Cup title.
