Darren Aquino was born in the colorful neighborhood of East New York, where he was exposed to his Italian heritage. He grew up watching and tasting the cooking at Rao’s restaurant.  As a New York youth, he mingled with actors, saw productions of movies being filmed right on his block, all while being taught the resilience of his Italian background by his family.Darren was born with a disability. However, this did not keep him from accomplishing his goals. He learned from a very young age that he would have to work harder, persevere and continually optimize his skills. His experiences have led him to delve into a variety of professions, including, a chef of fine Italian food, acting, as a SAG AFTRA union actor in a variety of TV shows and films, a children’s book author, and finally, that which is closest to his heart,  a national advocate for disabled.Darren is a true New Yorker in that he has an endless amount of energy and is very passionate about social justice for the under-served, be it disabled, indigent or elderly. He began advocating for disabled in 1983, and incorporated a non profit, Advocates for Disabled Americans, Veterans, Police, Firemen & Families in 1999.   He has been preserving and protecting the inherent Constitutional right of the disabled nationwide ever since. Darren has continued to increase the awareness of the challenges and victories of the disabled.
