C.D. - Freddie Gray, SCOTUS on Affirmative Action & Illegal Immigration, Gun Con

As we continue on through Ramadan, the world continues to vibrate with earth-shattering news.

Caesar Goodson Jr., the Balt. officer driving the van that transported Freddie Gray, was found not guilty of all charges, the third officer to be acquitted.

Obviously, Gray did not enter the police van mortally wounded, and somehow, after being transported to the hospital, he ended up dead. Is there no one who will be held culpable for his death?

We need to make some sense of this.

As their season winds down, SCOTUS has ruled on two critical cases, the first, allowing colleges to consider race in admissions. Naturally, Barack Obama was pleased.

The second however, was a blow to both a key aspect of his agenda and his ego; in a 4-4 spilt, the Court maintained the block on his plan towards amnesty for illegal immigrants.

In his response, where he admitted his frustration and disappointment, he argued, that due to the refusal of the Senate to consider any SCOTUS replacement, during the rest of his lame-duck term, it cannot perform its work in completion.

Fair to say, he had every reason to believe, if Merrick Garland was confirmed, the vote would have been 5-4, in his favor. But, it’s understandable that the GOP is playing a bit of “hardball”, by denying Obama to add one more liberal to the court.

Speaking of the Court, I was relieved to learn that Justice Thomas is not planning to retire. 

The Democrats just concluded a “sit-in”, referred to by Speaker Ryan, as a publicity stunt, in their demands that Congress act on a tougher Gun Control bill that would prevent suspected terrorists from acquiring firearms.

Sounds like a fair idea to me, but somehow, methinks there are things being overlooked in this rush, which is why the GOP has been so staid.
