As-Salaam-Alaikum (God's Peace upon You),
When Nabra Hassanan was viciously murdered, in Virginia, during the Month of Ramadan, the initial presumption, was, this was a hate crime. Since then, it's been classified as road rage. Allah knows Best, but, this writer must wonder, if the suspect, Darwin Torres, was Caucasian, rather than Hispanic, would the sentiment be different?
Either way, from what we've learned thus far, it is my view, that Muslims across the board, have to become more security-minded, especially in these challenging times. Self-preservation is a right, guaranteed by our Creator and codified on one level, by the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
We've learned of late, that the liberals' imposition of minimum wage laws, may have created a terrible, and [maybe] unintended consequence to the American workers. According to some stats, restaurant patronage has gone down. Then, we learn that MacDonald's is in the process of replacing workers with automative kiosks. Incidentally, upon the news, their stock value increased.
What does all of this mean for the future of labor and what is expected of us, to be occupationally relevant?
Congress passed "Kate's Law", in memory of a Kate Steinle, who was murdered by an illegal alien, in 2015. It increased penalties to those illegal aliens, who continue to return to the United States, after being deported. Also, “Sanctuary Cities”, can now stand to lose federal funding, if they continue the practice of defying federal law. Touchy situation, especially for those who believe that such measures are racially-based, and certainly, it is not the view of this writer, that race should be the criteria in any nation’s right to impose and enforce immigration laws.
