As-Salaam-Alaikum,
I must confess, I didn’t appreciate President Trump’s remarks in Poland, which have been condemned by liberals, as he extolled the virtues of Western Civilization, and questioned thereof, the West, having “the will to survive”.
It was only when taking in some of the media commentary, that I realized, Donald Trump was drawing a line the sand, boldly declaring that it’s been Western civilization and therefore, ethics, that has been the enduring light of the world, the real harbinger of human progress and decency.
As such, Western civilization and ethics, supersedes all other systems of law, government, social construct, that has even existed, including the principles and culture that has been established and formalized, via the Qur’an, Bible, or any other religious and cultural system, period.
Of course, central to this view, is the latest boogeyman, Islamic Law / Sharia, though it’s fitting to include religious law, in general (Christians tend to be silent, on whether they believe God’s law, in totality, should supersede man’s law).
All said, has Trump tapped into something that most people believe, especially, after what we’ve seen, over the past decades, by those claiming to espouse a better way, particularly, when it comes to morality, and a clear understanding of man, woman and family? Then again, given a choice, people flock to the western nations, and I say with all humility, imagine the “outcry”, if the leaders of any of the target nations (Trump’s Travel Ban), was to impose their own version?
What’s going on in Minnesota? First, Philando Castile, now, Justine Damond?
Of course, we know, as the victim was a white woman, and the cop involved, black and (presumably) Muslim, the sparks are flying.
Judging by some of the sick comments, I’ve come across, cooler heads had better prevail
