As-Salaam-Alaikum (God’s Peace upon You),
Blessed ‘Eid, to all those who fasted during the month of Ramadan, those who strived to and to the people in general.
Yesterday, marked the end of the intense 30-day period of fasting, contemplation and hopes for continued growth and renewal, and we look toward the rest of the year, with anticipation and promise -though we know that challenges abound.
Sunday is Father’s Day, so, we’ll take time to reflect on this male part of the [only acceptable] definition of family. Let’s reflect on our own fathers and ourselves, if we’re fathers, to assess what fatherhood means to us personally and society at whole. All of this, with the conscious reality of those forces that are enacting the War of Males, those who throw around “hetero-normalcy” and misogyny, with impunity.
June 19th marks Juneteenth. What exactly is it, and should we devote more time in recognizing it? Does it help us get to where we hope to be?
We’ll probably deal with the latest in the political and cultural scenes, as things heat up before the 2018 midterm elections.
