Saluting Women in the Miltary.
Betsie Warren was an R.N for 13/1/2 years, in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps for 2 years. Her rank was 1st Lieutenant. She was in Vietnam from May 1971- Feb. 1972 as an Operating Room Nurse. After being honorably discharged, she worked at various hospitals as an O.R. nurse, ICU, Medical floor and Oncology.
After her military service and becoming a civilian, Betsie went back to school while working. She also helped with fundraising for the Vietnam Women’s Memorial which was dedicated in Washington D.C. in 1993.
Susan Durham is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Nurse Corps having served as an operating room nurse, with distinction for 5 years on active duty and over 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. She was deployed once to a combat zone and activated from a reserve status to serve during Operation Desert Storm (Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.). Dr. Durham was appointed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) to serve on two national veterans’ committees, both dealing with women veteran's health issues. She still serves on the Women Veterans Council, which provides strategic advice on the VA Women Veterans’ Healthcare Initiative.
