Rob Plaskas underwent surgery for a brain tumor in the Lt. temporal lobe of his brain. As the tumor grew, although benign, it caused epileptic seizures. He had no choice but brain surgery. During the operation, he suffered a brain hemorrhage (causing a great deal of bld loss) and requiring a medically induced coma. Upon awakening, he was left with brain damage causing right-side paralysis, a speech impairment, major short-term memory loss, and a lifelong dependence on anti-seizure medication.
Now, 25 years later, Plaskas wrote a book about overcoming the odds and living a successful life. This book: "My Fight for Recovery: A Story of Overcoming Life-Threatening Brain Surgery," is the story of recovering from brain injury through hard work, determination and a positive outlook. His story provides hope to those going through similar circumstances, as well as the determination to keep moving ahead. Plaskas says, "My story shares how personal tragedy took my life away from me but how I faced the circumstances, embraced my new reality and found courage and strength to reinvent myself and lead a successful life,"
Plaskas found religion very helpful through this time, saying his faith was important in saving his life.He currently attends his local church. His job (since 2004) as a communications analyst for the Illinois General Assembly, wais also helpful. Recently he used his spare time to pursue opportunities to write about and share his life-long story to inspire others.
His goal is to become a motivational speaker to provide hope for people facing difficult circumstances. He wants to let those in similar circumstances know they can do anything they want if they put their mind to it. He loves other people's stories about how they succeeded despite their obstacles.
