James T. Ryder is a 20-year Veteran, ow retired, from the NYPD. Prior to his time with the NYPD he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Cold War under Ronald Reagan.
On 9/11 James was assigned to security at Ground Zero for the first 8 days, then was transferred to what is referred to as the ‘think tank’ of NYPD, the Office of Management, Analysis & Planning (OMAP). It was there that he was tasked, along with LT Andy Costello and Detective Tom Neal, to build what was known as the DNA Database. This Database was used to identify bodies, body parts, personal property, photographs, employee ID cards and much more. Upon his retirement in 2005 James’ team was exposed to the soot and toxins for 4yrs. That exposure brought the scary reality to their own doorstep when Det. Neal was diagnosed with Environmental Sinus Cancer, taking his life just 2 mo's ago after a 6yr struggle. The Database was used to identify over 500 false-claims of lost loved ones, & the return of some 89% of the items found; such as $2.5 Million in Jewelry, photos of loved ones, wallets etc.
For the last 12yrs James has been an Advocate for Responders & Survivors, has a Federal Contract to locate & register those Responders & Survivors into the World Trade Center Health Program and the Victim’s Compensation Fund. Jim lectures around the US &continues to assist Responders & Survivors as a Volunteer. fealgoodfoundation.com
