Women make up half of the world’s population, yet only contribute 37% to the global GDP. According to a recent study conducted by McKinsey & Company, shifts to gender equality in the workplace could feasibly increase the global GDP by $12 trillion in the next 10 years.
When it comes to women in leadership, the benefits of increasing gender equality at senior levels are clear. Numerous studies show that companies which maintain a high level of female representation at board level significantly outperform those with only male board directors. But there are many challenges related to how to best grow the number of women in leadership roles, and whilst progress is being made, it’s slow.
