Emerging editor Ellen Michelle trained in all types of editing. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Publishing from Simon Fraser University and an Editing Certificate also through SFU. I am currently a student in the Master of Publishing program at SFU, which I will finish in April 2018. I also attend many workshops and seminars held by the Editors’ Association of Canada and various local universities.
I enjoy all facets of the publishing industry. Through schooling, internships, and other work opportunities I have gained experience in magazine publishing, marketing for book publishers, editing, and book design. As I started to explore the various career opportunities in the publishing industry further, I realized that producing a high-quality book requires more than just good editing, but it’s a great place to start. I became attracted to editing as a profession because, as an avid reader, I was tired of spotting spelling and grammatical errors and inconsistencies in published works; I want to be the one to stop that from happening. My experience in the other areas of the publishing industry have made me become a better editor because I know what steps have been taken prior to and will be taken after the manuscript is in my hands, and I have the experience to help with those additional steps.
I am qualified to edit fiction and non-fiction manuscripts, and have experience with both.
