MLK.50: KCK Commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the John Brown Memorial on April 4th
Kansas City, Kan., March 27, 2018 – Residents, community organizations, the Quindaro Ruins/Underground Railroad – Exercise 2018, and representatives from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas will join together in solidarity to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 4:00 pm in front of the John Brown Memorial. April 4th marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. King. The community decided to hold this event in front of the historic statue of John Brown, which was recently desecrated with graffiti weeks prior to this national commemoration. There will be a short program that will include speakers and participation from local students. This event is an opportunity for the community to stand together as one to commemorate the life and work of two activists, John Brown and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought against hatred and bigotry during their time.   A post-program conversation with community advocates will be hosted at the nearby Vernon Multi-Purpose Center, for those seeking options for further involvement in Northeast KCK.  Please join us for a short program at the John Brown Memorial near the Old Quindaro Townsite at the John Brown Memorial located at 27th and Sewell Ave, Kansas City, KS 66104.
