Rebecca is a Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University specializing in Sociology and teaches courses on power relations ,including race,class,gender and sexuality .Hensley is currently the President of the Association for Humanist Sociology ,which is a organization of academics and activists committed to social change .Rebecca can be found on her blog on race under the title whyaminotsiprised.She also has authored a book entitled Reduced to Equality :My Odyssey to Renounce Racial Privilege. Professor Hensley has a long history with the Abolition movement.From 1971 to 1974 Rebecca Hensley was part of a collective that operated the National Prison Center ,the Prisoners Digest International and the Church of the New Song.Even til this day she has continued to be a part of the prison Abolition movement fighting for prisoners rights and working in solidarity with prisoners and ex-prisoners to help them survive ,win their release and successfully rejoin their families and communities.
