Exploration of The Future:

We are about to reach an interesting date in the development of freemasonry- St Johns Day 2017 marks 300 years since the declaration of a structured freemasonic organization.

On that date, we can pause and reflect on things that connect us to events out-of-mind. Each dedicated freemason, whether accomplished apprentice, student of the arts & sciences or a man whose feels he is more than himself.  

Candidly, we know the goal of enlightenment has flickered. With rare exception, creating an atmosphere of learning and contemplation is a task that as yet, lies before us. The compression of history makes it seem freemasonry has been a steady association of brilliant thinkers as if they are our contempories. Some of us are lulled into a belief that freemasonry is a 6th Estate; an influence of determinance.  Our strength is influence of thought, decision, conscience and expression.  When you read a newspaper, I doubt your mind travels off the page to the historic processes that brought about 'freedom of the press?'  As we should be, we live in the moment. If 'masonic' values do exist, they exist in our minds made tangible by our actions.

300 years of history has seemingly made us sheepish about the notion of Great Ideas.  If James Anderson, Elias Ashmole or Christopher Wren were amongst us today, I dare say they were been suffocated in a faceless masonic bureacracy that did not exist in their day.

As we prepare our thoughts for 2017, we continue to adapt, strenghtened by a natural curiousity.  When we look up from our work bench to share findings we owe it to ourselves and our Antients to do so with dignity, sophistication and humiliation.
