Yes we are exposed to sound bites- sanitized of emotion, left to react, no reflection necessarry, never to assimilate before being ushered to the next tragedy to entertain. Has this changed our need to understand?
None of it. The ideal- that mason who lives an unassuming life based on insight, was never a populist movement and is no moreso today. The essence of a Master Craftsman, were rare talents protected by a the discipline and order of the Lodge, able to hold that talent was the judgement of performance came with all the pettiness and jealousy of the marketplace.
It took many labourers doing practical jobs. The successful lodge respected and acknowledged a diversified membership, blending individual skills into reputation. How could a lodge lacking respect for diversification be able to compete for work? If we were building a Cathedral, which would we choose?
