Whether obligations are taken seriously matters little. Masonry is an echo that began 14th 15th century, a sound that began in the distance in different locations, but a sound nevertheless that harmonized indistinct from the winds. The sound was as lyrical and soothing as it was informative. Immanuel Kant noticed that science is organized knowledge; wisdom, organized life. Nature gave the listeners a sense of purpose and order. There was balance. Men facing the chaotic ethics of religion, of rule, of a time when natural law was emerging in the collective conscience, began to understand common purpose was a sanctuary. Listeners are an obscure lot; a small portion of all peoples. The sound echoes over savagery, pestilence, and starvation. Common purpose. As imperfect as is masonry, it rewrites the work of nature into symphonies. It has as many homes as there are sources of the winds, with the same restraints- flowing across borders, over time, unending.
