IN TIME

It is inconceivable to most of us. 13.7 Billion. Just a number. Is it the profit of banks during times of austerity? Certainly not; too low. Is it he wealth extracted from vulnerable people? No. That is far more.  It is a calculation for the age of the universe. How many stars? Two hundred billion trillion. Just a number, also hard to conceptualize. It represents the number of stars. Closer to home, 37.2 trillion tells us the number of cells in our body. Ten quadrillion, the number of cellular divisions in that body over the course of one lifetime. Harder to grasp. As science has expanded, life expectancy has increased. Today we are about 8 Billion souls.  Of that, calculate 3 Million freemasons; .0375% is us. I would not invest on those odds, and yet here we are, inconceiveable tackling unimaginable tasks.   Masonry is not like performing a poem or a song. It is learning a new language and using it in a new way of thinking unsupported by evidence from our senses. Do good men prosper over bad?  Socrates tells us they do, but my eyes tell me corruptions is always ahead of justice. Fairness is an illusion. And Nietzche said it out loud- we killed G-d with our use of rationality. We work knowing the we will contribute without necessarily finding the answer but we will contribute because we believe, shortcomings and all in the value of rational thought in the hands of men with conviction and faith.  How is this possible? Imagination. Creativity. Time.
