THE CHANCE TO CHOOSE

We could be fanciful and not give a fig. I've got mine and to hell with the rest. We could but we can't. The human condition doesn't give us the tools of a misanthrope. We have only to look at the behaviour of children, before we socialize them. With few exceptions, when we are little. we are loving, careing and gentle.  It takes years of exposure to lessons that tell us those traits are weakness. A tough man survives. A bully survives best.  Except men of justice decided long ago, that unwarranted aggression contradicts the rules of a good life. And it leaves behind fearful and suspicious rhelics. The counter balance has always been conscience- the difference between what we know and what we admit. Of course today we reflect on existence in a universe in which we may be the only bundle of particles that generated consciousness. It is difficult to comprehend.  I find it interesting the a small group of men decided to connect and while facing the uncertainty and challenges of life, became determined to improve the condition of life in their own way and   the lives of those around him. Some men can absorb new information and adapt. Others cannot.  A dear friend talks about deciding if a man cannot or willnot. A man who cannot can be instructed. Perhaps he hasn't had the advantage of clarity.  The man who won't, he would be dismissed. Which file men fall into is influenced by the choices they make not by us. Fortunately we introduce ourselves to well read men for whom learning has been self-directed since the moment they matured. Is that all there is?  The pronoucement of a clever teenager or the prompt that sparks a journey of discovery. But take care. The journey is fascinatingly endless.
