Why start a home based business of any kind?

Many people are worried about being laid off from their jobs. Or the company they work for will soon close it's doors forever. Some feel they are walking on egg shells to not get fired. What happens when the only money you make is from your job and the job is taken away? Bills still come. Rent is still do. Car payments, gas, insurance still have to be paid. You work really hard, but you only can make so much. Many people never get raises. Some people accept paycuts for the sake of keeping their job. They don't mind working, but many people lose hope on enjoying their lives. They are just working to pay bills. 

If you could find something that would allow you to work on your own time, the money was great, you were never limited by anything, what would stop you from trying to work from home?
