Live today at 4pm Pacific,  I (Jay Bozievich) have engaged an attorney to represent my dispute with the city of Eugene challenging Eugene's new public safety payroll tax.

“I also cannot believe it is constitutional to try and tax the employee's income that derives from work they do outside of City limits. My working office is located in my district outside of City limits, how am I subject to this taxation without any representation?” Continued Bozievich, “How many other people is the City trying to extort by misapplying their tax authority?”

Attorney Alan Thayer noted "Section 1 of the Ordinance adds 10 sections to the Eugene Code. One of those, Eugene Code 3.724(1) imposes the tax on every employer, “except the federal government, State of Oregon or any political subdivision of the state.”

The City of Eugene enacted Ordinance No. 20616 on June 10, 2019, that imposes a 0.22% tax on employers and a 0.44% tax on employees based on the employee's wages to pay for various “public safety” programs. The tax becomes effective on January 1, 2021.

To sum up, the Public Safety tax applies to anybody who works or lives in the Eugene area.

We will also touch on the unscientific closures of gyms in the Eugene area.
